Chapel Hill Academy provides a broad range of Transition Services for students of all ages.
Transition Services begin in our elementary grades through middle school with the use of activities involving social interaction both inside the school building and outside in our local community. Once in high school we try to provide our students with the tools to become independent successful young adults.
Services include weekly transition classes centering on social skills, job readiness skills and self-advocacy.
Students explore careers through involvement in weekly career exploration classes that focus on career interest areas in the arts, food service, health and business fields. Community based instruction is provided for both paid and volunteer experiences. Career interests are also fostered through speakers, field trips and our annual college and career fair.
Students have the opportunity (and are encouraged) to be involved in Work Based Learning (WBL) sites, take college courses, participate in shared time vocational programs and take advanced courses within their sending districts.
A certified special education transition specialist is on staff to provide transition counseling and career guidance. We partner with outside agencies to provide additional support and services.
Our students graduate with a well-developed transition plan and the supports to aide them in making the successful transition from high school to young adult life.
