Chapel Hill Academy’s Extended School Year (ESY) program provides for a full 30 days of additional instruction beyond the regular academic year, during the summer months.
Chapel Hill Academy is proud to offer our students an opportunity to participate in the Extended School Year Program. Eligibility is IEP driven and based on preventing the regression of academic, behavioral, emotional or social skills.
Each summer there is a school wide theme that ties together the academic and social components of our ESY program. The theme this summer will be “Animals of the World.”
Each homeroom will learn about the animals of the world and our impact on their biomes. Students will be exposed to animals great and small, while learning about animals they may have seen can influence our daily lives.
During the 6-week ESY program, we will cover six of the major life biomes.
- Rain Forest
- Deciduous Forest
There are two programs within the ESY program, Academic Success and Adventure Program (Grades K-8), and Academics/Career Exploration Program (Grades 9-12)
Academic Success and Adventure Program
Students in K-8th grades will continue their course of studies; Language Arts Literacy and Mathematics. Remediation, individual attention, and review of basic skills will be included daily. In addition to maintaining academic and social skills, students will participate in community-based activities that will tie into the theme, Animals of the World. In order to facilitate experiential learning, we will take field trips around the area to learn firsthand about our local biome. Some of these destinations include The Great Swamp, The Raptor Trust, and Turtleback Zoo, among others.
The Extended School Year Program will culminate with the students participating in an effort to adopt an animal, which we will unveil on “World Animal Day,” October 4, 2019.
Academics and Career Exploration Program
Students in 9th – 12th grades will be able to supplement, remediate and enrich their academic skills through concentrated career investigation. Students will complete an interest inventory, job applications and will research career opportunities. The Chapel Hill Academy career exploration and practical application program will utilize community involvement and field trips to develop strong vocational skills and career guidance as well as maintaining academic readiness for the coming school year.
